For this week’s Discussion Board there are two articles to generate conversation. Please read “A Project to Reengineer Discharges Reduces 30-Day Readmission Rates” and “Aiming for Fewer Hospital U-turns in the articles folder of the Course Content section of the course and then discuss the following: 1) What are your general reactions to Project RED? 2) What were some of the key elements of the implementation of Project RED and how do you think they fit with what we have learned so far about Lean? 3) What do you think the results of this study may portend for the future of hospital discharge processes around the country? 4) Do you see any flaws or roadblocks to the implementation of such a system in all hospitals? 5) Talk about the specific actions Valley Baptist Medical Center took to better prepare patients for discharge and self-management. 6) How important was it that Valley Baptist Medical Center had strong project team leadership and hospital leadership support? 7) How did Valley Baptist engage its post discharge providers, i.e. patients’ primary care physicians, in its Project RED initiative to reduce 30 day readmissions?
