In this module, you have learned about many of the Ancient African peoples, but none so specifically as the Bantu peoples. Take a minute to think about the what you learned about these various peoples, their culture, their religion and their lifestyles and reflect on what a day in the life of say, a king/chief, a miner, weaver or other citizen might have been like in any of these civilizations. Now, take an analytical, yet creative, approach to examining a day in the life of one of these ancient Africans. Then create a historically accurate personal account from the perspective of a member any of the African societies we’ve studied in this module that you find interesting (though you may find the Bantu peoples to be the easiest); describing what an average day might have been like for this fictional person. (In other words, I’m not looking for a research paper on a person who really lived in this era, but a story that you create based upon what you’ve learned about people living in Africa at this time. This will require you to take what you have read and use your imagination and critical thinking to fill in the blanks.) Breathe life into your character. Who are they? What’s their name? Gender? Class or job? Where are they from? How old are they? Describe their duties and responsibilities? How they are treated by others in their society? What is the first thing they do in the morning? What do they do before they go to sleep at night? Where might they sleep? In order to make sure your character is historically accurate, be sure to utilize specific information from the learning activities in this module to craft your story. Your paper must be 1-2 pages in length and follow MLA guidelines (double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, one-inch margins). This assignment is worth 15 points, and will follow the HIST 134 Critical Thinking Rubric. This rubric is available when you open the assignment.
