Your final paper topic should be clearly connected to your experience during your service learning project. The notes below are for your general consideration and merely a guide – your paper will not simply answer these questions in a rote fashion. Instead, use these thoughts to guide you to your central thesis and be reflecting on these while you complete your hours: Analyze and explain the role of courts in American society. Compare and contrast the ethical constraints place on judges and attorneys in the American court systems and the effect of those constraints. Analyze the structure, processes and power of the state courts. Identify and analyze contemporary issues pertaining to the courts and the criminal justice system. What is the main thing that you will take away from this experience? What is (at least) one thing that you would change or suggest to make this experience more worthwhile? Time: How did you contribute to the organization? What activities and processes were you directly involved in? How much time did you spend in each area of the process? Was this time well spent? Did you wish you could spend more time in a different area? Clients: What are your final thoughts on the people being served by this law firm? Did you experience any challenges in interacting with them? Are you surprised by your final thoughts? Did you change your mind from your pre-project reflection about what kind of person you would encounter? Were any of your previously held stereotypes challenged or affirmed? Law firm: Describe any strengths or weaknesses you observed in the organization. How well do you believe this firm fulfills its mission? What did you see as limitations to the fulfillment of the firm’s mission? How did your skills, education, and interests help the organization reach its goals? Education: How did your education at IRSC help you to contribute to the firm and your assigned tasks? What did you feel was lacking from your education to prepare you for this project? If you had to start working at this firm for a paycheck tomorrow, do you think you are prepared? What more could you do to prepare yourself?
