Choose one essay topic and critically evaluate: Question: a) Are leaders necessary in the MH/AOD industry or can an administrator carry out the same role? And b) What challenges do MH/AOD professionals have in a rural or remote part of Australia, rather than working in a metropolitan area? 1200 words. Minimum of 10 references up to date, nothing later than 2013. Assignment guidelines You can choose either a) or b). Both are essays that require critical thinking and some in depth knowledge. For assignment 2 a) This is asking a specific question, but before you can answer it, you will need to have knowledge of what a leader is and there are many different types of leadership, along with many theories. Choose the one you feel is most appropriate for the mental health industry in Australia. You will also need to understand the role of an administrator and be able to distinguish between the two roles. Critical evaluation means that you do not just apply theories or descriptions, but that you think carefully, amongst other things, about the terms and definitions, for example, what is the difference between a manager and a leader? Maybe they are the same thing? Once you feel confident you will be able to make persuasive arguments. For 2 b) The question wants you to look closely at the challenges for professionals working in rural, remote and metropolitan Australia. By using critical thinking, you will not be assuming that working in a metropolitan area has no challenges, maybe they are different/maybe the same? Don’t simply produce what you already know, do your own research and check your references are not out of date, in case things have changed or not/got better/got worse.
