Follow the template of your approved Research Paper Proposal, crafting an 8-12 page research paper (page count applies to body text; not to include charts, tables or graphics, if added) on a major theme or series of influential events that have shaped or define one or more modern Middle East/North African nations–as coordinated and APPROVED via your research proposal (from Week #3). Your Research Paper must include a formal title page, page numbering, proper in-text citations (as footnotes formatted according to Chicago Manual of Style/Turabian formatting) and a formal bibliography page (also formatted per Turabian for page format and Chicago Manual of Style for entries). NOTE: For Turabian PAGE formatting examples (title page, body text, footnotes, block quotes, and bibliography), you MUST follow the examples found at http://www.igsmin.com/public_html/materials/Turabian_style_and_formatting.pdf. (Caveat: use italics for book and journal titles, do not use underline). For proper footnote and bibliography entry formatting, a short guide to the Chicago Manual of Style is available via the APUS online library at http://apus.campusguides.com/APUS_ePress/chicago (be sure to “EXPAND” and comply with all of the format examples found at the bottom of the page). For more comprehensive coverage of formatting for nearly every possible source type, you should have full access to the latest (16th) edition of the Chicago Manual of Style online (focus on Chapter 14 for citation examples) using your APUS Student ID and Password at http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org.ezproxy2.apus.edu/16/ch14/ch14_toc.html. Citations from online articles are permitted ONLY from scholarly websites or primary documents available via reputable archives or via the APUS Online Library. Reminder: Your title page, bibliography, and citations are NOT included in the assigned 8-12 pages count. The body of your Research Paper should feature a strong introduction with a clear thesis statement, well-developed supporting arguments that are linked by proper transitions and supported by at least SEVEN scholarly sources, and a conclusion paragraph that ties back to the introduction and summarizes support for your stated thesis. Substantial research (in addition to assigned course readings) is necessary. Your research paper must reflect your own original thoughts. Also, you MUST receive instructor’s permission, in advance, to include any information “recycled” or previously developed as part of ANY of your previously submitted academic writing assignments. For the standard grading criteria (“Rubric”), PLEASE REVIEW the APUS upper division-Level Paper Grading Rubric, attached. NOTE: There are deduction penalties for all papers received “unexcused” late (10% for every 6 hours late), and deductions for papers too short (25% for every half page short) or too long (20% for every half page too long). Reminders: Substantial research (in addition to assigned course readings) is REQUIRED. Your research paper must reflect your own original thoughts. Your paper will be checked for originality using “Turnitin” software and graded based on originality or creative thinking, and quality of research, writing, and formatting. A research paper submitted that does not correspond to your previously approved proposal will earn a grade of zero! ***I am attaching my research proposal. Although you must stay on the topic, you do not have to use the same bibliography***
