Task: 1. You need to watch the movie of Tron: Legacy first; 2. You need to answer some parts of the question below: “Mind and Machine: Can machines have consciousness at all? If so, of what does it consist?” So what you need to do are these few steps: 1. definition of consciousness 2. Try to point out that not only human beings have consciousness but others things will still have consciousness; eg the human cloning and the programs in this movie have some consciousness. But you need to point out that the there are different levels of consciousness. Probably human beings have the highest level of consciousness. And you have to give arguments for it! 3. Try to use the Dualism Theory to argue the below viewpoints: The purpose of this is to argue that all other theories of philosophy can’t support the question: “Mind and Machine: Can machines have consciousness at all? If so, of what does it consist?” But only the theory of Dualism can answer this question. So what you need to do in this step is to define what is Dualism Theory first and then try to disagree all other theories but only support Dualism. Other arguments: 1. Physicalism: The human body disappears in the reality while they enter the GRID (digital world). A human does not need a body to continue its brain activity. Eg: in the movie, Quora, which is born in the GRID, owns a human body while she entered the reality. Consciousness does not need to come with a body. 2. Functionalism: A token-identity theory which explains that mental activities are a relationship between mental/physical input and output. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/10YPOnH38IAj3UpbVJEcE9nRmpP2FUUfhVvNmDdxQ42c/edit?usp=sharing 3. The mindset of the Clone (CLU) Pls argue back. Thanks! Better all examples come from the movie!
