1. Is there any history of cancer in your family? If so, discuss what type(s) any family members have been diagnosed with, and how exercise and nutrition may or may not have been (or are/are not) a factor in preventing and/or treating the disease. If not, consider anyone close to you (outside of your family), or even your favorite celebrity, who has experienced cancer either directly or within his/her family and address the same question/prompt. [Note that this may require asking questions about your own or another’s family, so be prepared to take some notes during any conversations with family or friends that may assist you in addressing this week’s prompts]
2. Choose one of the three most threatening cancers that afflict humans and consider the following in the context of your health and well-being: 1) Discuss what you would change as a preventative measure for this type of cancer, and 2) what you would change/do if you were diagnosed with this type of cancer? Don’t be afraid to do some research and share your findings with your classmates!
3. Why should a diagnosis of pre-diabetes be taken seriously? What lifestyle modifications are recommended to prevent or reverse the onset of diabetes?
4. Explain the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Why is physical activity so important both in the prevention and in the treatment of type 2 diabetes?
