Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.1 Each student will participate in civic engagement of the African Diaspora by attending an event and writing a three (3) page minimum paper, APA format, analyzing the experience and its relation to the themes and topics learned in the course. The paper must provide a detailed summary of the event, an analysis of the event as it relates to the course themes and concepts, and an examination of how attending the event contributed your learning about the experiences and identities of people within the African Diaspora
