The aim of the module is to provide you with the opportunity to explore the concept of leadership within health and social care services. You will develop a range of leadership skills to meet current and future demands of complex health and social care organisations. Understanding Self Understanding self, personality, learning styles, emotional intelligence and managing personal stress, clarification of values & beliefs. Personal leadership models, styles and behaviour The use of personal power Team and group theories How team work influences patient care Developing leadership; approaches to leadership in healthcare, leadership styles and behaviours. Leadership work, roles and goals within healthcare organisations: understanding culture, power and relationships; quality agendas – performance outcomes Leading people in complex teams and complex organisations. Working with patients/service users, carers and external agencies. Developing Leadership Skills & Competence Developmental skills Leadership attributes: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management, role conflict Team-working skills Supporting and empowering individuals and teams; changing locus of control; inter-professional working Communication skills, negotiation, collective problem solving, setting expectations, establishing group norms, motivation and inspiration/vision/creativity Political skills Exploring the drivers behind healthcare practice Managing change: accelerating change; disruptive innovations and practice, risk, understanding systems and organisations Enhancing the quality of service provision Development of a learning environment. Learning Outcomes; LO1: Analyse the extent to which personal and professional values, attitudes and behaviours influence health and social care improvement and service delivery LO2: Evaluate the extent to which team effort and team working can affect the quality of care experienced by patients/service users and their families/carers LO3: Analyse the attributes and skills of effective leadership in complex teams and complex organisations. LO4: Evaluate organisational systems in health and social care and the role of leaders in supporting service improvement
