The effects of sexual harassment in the military are devastating. It destroys morale, breaks down the cohesiveness of the unit, jeopardizes the mission, and puts lives at risk. When the average person thinks about the military the first thing they picture is an organization designed for war. Over the last two decades, we’ve been given many pictures of what war looks like, from the Gulf war, to 911 and the World Trade Center bombings, to the countless caskets that we see on the news being flown back to the U.S with an American flag draped across it. Unfortunately, the United States military has been engaged in fighting a war that is much closer to home, and for many years has remained silent and invisible. That silent war is the war of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment in the workplace is not a new topic, in fact, it has been a topic of discussion for far too long. Over the years many people mostly women have had to endure unfair treatment at the hands of someone, usually their supervisor that oversteps their boundaries. The United States military is a subculture of American culture however, it is not excused from the table of conversation about sexual harassment. There are many documented situations that have occurred, some gaining mass media attention about the United States military and sexual harassment. Although the United States military has done a better job than the civilian sector when it comes to addressing the issues of sexual harassment, they still have not been completely able to get in front of this issue and prevent it from reoccurring. The long-lasting effects of this silent war sexual harassment can be devastating to a military unit. In an environment where people are forced to work in such proximity, sometimes living together for months or even years, trust is everything. If the troops, feel violated the unit will become fragmented the mission could become compromised. The Outline: A full-sentence outline helps you create the structure of your paper and the topic sentences of your paragraphs at the same time. Think of this document as your blueprint for the final paper. By approaching the outline in this way, you can more easily move paragraphs around and edit the flow of the paper before you write the full paper. This makes editing for the flow of information easier. For this activity, create a full-sentence outline for your final paper. Each sentence will act as a topic sentence for a new paragraph in your paper. The entire paper should be outlined using this method. This will allow your instructor to provide feedback to you about the information flow in your paper.
