Consider the case study below and carefully answer all the questions below. Ethics “A foodservice employee is seen packaging multiple to-go boxes of prepared food from the kitchen home for the evening for dinner. The employee states the “food will just go to waste anyway.” There is no official policy in the facility which allows for foods to be taken home (even if such foods are considered left over or disposed of) but an unofficial policy known among management and staff that food may only be consumed on site for the purpose of breaks/mealtimes. The employee has worked for over 20 years in the facility, is a productive employee, has been nominated by the facility as “employee of the month” by peer workers, and does not have other disciplinary issues. The foodservice supervisor does not want to counsel or discipline the employee because Administrative Assistants to the CEO were observed taking catering leftovers from the facility.” What are the key issues in the case study? Is this an ethical issue and/or a business dispute and why? How does this issue relate to the Academy’s Code of Ethics? Is the employee in violation of the Code? Why or why not? What options does the foodservice manager have for responding to the employee? Choose at least two possible responses and discuss how these responses relate to the Academy’s Code of Ethics. Considering all the evidence you have discussed, how do YOU think the foodservice manager should respond? Why? Remember to tie your answer to the Academy’s Code of Ethics.
