The final research paper will include library research on a particular issue in policing and will explain the development of the policing issue in modern policing, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the institution in which this policing issue is housed, and discuss how legal restrictions affect this policing issue. The final research paper is required for all sections of this course to be used in evaluating students’ ability to: Explain the development of modern policing and social control institutions. Evaluate the structure and organization of modern law enforcement institutions and the relative strengths and weaknesses of each. Analyze how the legal environment affects modern policing and the contemporary debates about legal restrictions on policing. Identify policing practices and conventions. Papers should be 12 pages in length, double spaced (maximum 13). At least six academic sources should be cited in the paper.
