Principles of Marketing

Answer the following questions in not less than 100 words. References should be provided.

1.  For each stage of the product lifecycle, identify one product you believe to be at that stage and explain what you’ve observed that leads you to your conclusions.

2. Considering the consumer product classes defined by buying behavior (e.g. convenience, shopping, specialty and unsought products), recommend an appropriate intensity of retail distribution for each class. Explain your reasoning for each recommendation. (For quick reference, see Exhibit 8-6 on page 209 of the textbook.)

3. Discuss the types of trade-offs involved in physical distribution costs, service levels, and sales.

4. Compare the evolution of wholesaling in relation to the evolution of retailing. Which changes are similar and which ones are fundamentally different?

5. Using a product example of your own choosing (not one used as an example in the textbook or by a classmate who has posted already), explain the relationship between your chosen product (class, life-cycle stage, other factors), the promotion objectives, and the adoption process.

6. Find ads to final consumers that illustrate two of the following types of advertising:

  • a) institutional
  • b) pioneering
  • c) competitive
  • d) reminder

Scan or digitally photograph your ads and upload them with an explanation of each ad’s objective/s. Identify the message (copy thrust) of each and the need/s each ad appeals to.
