The content of the Essay post will be an in-depth analysis of an assigned Primary Source as explained below: Your essay must be structured into three separate paragraphs: An Introduction that discusses the bibliographic details of the source you have chosen to discuss. A Body that analyzes the source and discusses its contents The first paragraph introduces the primary source and reviews important bibliographic information. This first paragraph answers these questions: Who wrote the source? When was it written? What kind of source is it (e.g., letter, book, pamphlet, journal, etc.)? Why was it written? The body of the Essay post summarizes the contents of the source effectively and completely. The author’s central themes and emphasis are explained. Specific details from the source are mentioned as examples of its content. The body of the Essay post (second paragraph) contains a full quote (typed out sentence inside quotation marks) from the primary source that helps to explain and illustrate the main points of the source as discussed in the summary paragraph. The primary source is cited properly using in-text and works cited MLA formatting. A Conclusion that explains how the source fits into the larger context of the struggle over freedom in US history as discussed in the chapters assigned for the Unit. (Please note that your conclusion must make specific reference to a theme presented in the assigned pages for the Unit in the textbook. MLA in-text and works cited citations are required.)
