You need to use a writing style for example:

APA style https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/15/

MLA style https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/11/

Chicago style https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/717/01/

In addition:

  1. The paper should be targeted reading for your classmates. People who are interested in the same issues you are interested in and who have read the same books and articles you have read this semester so far.

So in writing your paper you should assume the following:

    1. that your readers will probably be interested in your topic,
    2. that they are intelligent readers (so you don’t need to talk down to them),
    3. that their understanding will probably be enhanced by your showing connections between what you have researched and what they have already read and discussed in class.
  1. The paper should describe the situations/examples you’ve chosen, the facts behind it, the parties involved.
  2. As a way of making your paper clearer and more understandable, it should include references to ideas and materials we have explored and discussed in class.
  3. The paper must have a minimum of FOUR references to class readings and TWO other references!

Use the help of the Writing Center https://writingcenter.missouri.edu/ . There is a tutor assigned to our class but you can also consult other tutors if s/he is not available.

Choose one of the topics below and show the interrelation of ecological and environmental issues, human rights and global politics.

–Global warming results in rising sea levels. Islands are losing land resulting in a new type of refugee: the climate refugee. What are global implications?

–Indigenous cultures are historically in a weaker position to fight injustices, economic hardship and human rights abuses. How have the Maori, the Quechua, the Zapatistas, the Roma and Sinti, the Sami people, etc. fared?

–A government’s methods to fight terrorism can infringe on its people’s right to privacy and freedom of speech (whistleblower); a government’s actions like oil drilling, cutting social services, privatizing public goods in order to bolster its economy can infringe on indigenous land rights, cause environmental damage and disadvantage the already poor citizens of a society. Show how political actions can effect human rights and environmental concerns.

–Drones and the ethics of target killing: pros and cons of using drones for private, professional and military use and its effect on a global scale.

–Start with a case, a country, a person that/who have an issue with human rights, environmental rights or a transnational political/economic topic then showcase how the issues are connected.

— Use a contemporary political situation like the attack on the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) trauma hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan, on October 3, 2015. What issues are raised with this incident? Why is MFS pulling out of that region? What political and human rights issues are affected? Are there environmental issues that need to be considered?

— Globalization and agriculture: what are the challenges feeding the world. How are those challenges interconnected with the environment, politics and human rights? Pick a country or region as a case study.

–We have all heard the term “blood diamond.” Now we have more than just diamond mining to think about. How do consumer habits in the developed world shape production and mining practices in resource-rich countries abroad? Take, for example, the case of mining coltan (a mineral used in cellphones, laptops, etc) in DRC, or avocado growing in Mexico, or cocoa and coffee farming in Africa and Central America, etc. Choose one or two case studies and explore the effects of our consumerism on the poor in these countries. Think about solutions/policies that can lead to better outcomes.

–Choose a separatist nationalist movement or rebel minority group and examine how the movement or group affects and is affected by issues discussed in the course such as globalization, economics, environmental issues, etc.
