For your first paper, write a 4‒6-page-long essay (double-spaced, 12-font, standard margin) describing your project in the context of the themes and issues we’ve discussed in the first half of the course. The paper should address the following points: What are the specific local aspects and global aspects of your research topic, and how are they connected? Which debates and questions surrounding globalization does your research tie in with? (Here you need to introduce and discuss the readings we covered, as well as others you’ve found. Make sure to show the relevance to these readings to your own topic). Which research questions will you specifically look at, and which debates will your research findings contribute to? Finally, give a short outline of how you will conduct your research, i.e., which kind of sources will you use, what do hope to find there, and how will the final research paper be organized?

Think of this paper as the introduction to your final project; in the introduction you establish a framework for your research and show that your project is relevant to the academic research in the field: How would your own (local) research contribute to the larger questions of globalization?
