Imagine you are a registered nurse in a community health setting, and your manager has asked you to prepare a report for use at a professional in-service training session. The topic will be: How can public health information and research influence how nurses provide health education and promotion to Indigenous families, so as to achieve better health outcomes? Participants in the group will consist of a range of health professionals including registered and enrolled nurses. Your report will be distributed to the group prior to the training session to provide participants with accurate and objective information on the topic. Your report should be supported with no less than six research journal articles that are less than seven years old as well as government policy or related documents. APA referencing is to be used for all of your citations (in-text citations and the reference list are not included in the total word count). Instructions Follow these instructions as you prepare your report: Step 1: Find out what contemporary public health research tells us about the health of Indigenous families, and the work practices of clinicians in this area. To do this, refer to your prescribed textbooks (or other relevant textbook), and use a library database to find other professional and academic texts that address the topic area. Make sure that you consider information available from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and other relevant government/health websites. Take careful notes as you read. Step 2: Create an appropriate title for your report. This should reflect the content and focus of the topic. Step 3: Write your report, using the following headings: Introduction: (Provide an overview of the importance of health promotion and education in the care of children, youth and families.) Background: (Now, narrow your focus to describe the current health status of Indigenous families based the research you have undertaken) Critique and Discussion: In the light of theory and your reading/research: Critically examine your research and identify the key issues which impact on the health of Indigenous families. Recommendations: Explain how community health professionals could communicate more effectively with Indigenous families and communities to promote self-care health education strategies. Include a primary health care/partnership model in this section of the report to strengthen your recommendations. Conclusion: Offer a synthesis of your research, in which you demonstrate that you understand how health-based research could improve health outcomes for Indigenous families through the development of effective health promotion and education strategies.
