Paper 2 (Plato and Pericles) You have now read the the teachings of the Plato’s Allegory of the Cave (EWC 6.3) and Pericles’ Funeral Oration (EWC 6.9) Plato is attempting to define the Greek philosophical mind and the ways in which Greeks should think. Pericles is praising and upholding how Athenians govern themselves. Based on your understanding of the two documents, please make an historical argument about these questions: How do these two sources reflect central ideas of ancient Greek civilization? What is the central message of the Allegory? What is Pericles trying to say in his speech? In what ways do both reflect Greek values of the age? Remember, like the last assignment you are using sets of primary sources to evaluate against each other. This means that evidence is key to answering this question well. We are not asking your personal opinion, but rather what how you think these two documents connect to each other. This is a kind of advanced compare and contrast paper, but more analytical than the last. We need you to read all of the sources very carefully. N.B. When citing your evidence, use parenthetical citations, i.e. (EWC 6.3, p. X). Paper length: 500-700 words
