How factors within our control affect the aging process.

How factors within our control affect the aging process.

“None of us is getting any younger,” said the instructor who is feeling very old and tired… For this discussion, I would like everyone to think about aging and how factors within our control affect the aging process. The Administration of Aging (AoA), a division of the US Department of Health and Human Services, provides a wealth of materials on the process of aging and on strategies for aging well. Before responding to this discussion, reread the Content Guide: https://agingstats.gov/docs/LatestReport/Older-Americans-2016-Key-Indicators-of-WellBeing.pdf Content Guide deals with your perspective on your own aging process and on the aging process of others. Consider the following questions with respect to your personal experience and knowledge: What are the major dietary issues that may impact aging? How can these be addressed? What are the effects of income, diet, health, and lifestyle on the aging process? How do these factors (i.e., income, diet, health, and lifestyle) affect our risk of developing degenerative diseases associated with aging? (Use specific disorders as examples.) Based on your own behaviors, or on those of an older person you know, discuss how these factors (i.e., income, diet, health, and lifestyle) are being personally addressed or not addressed as a means of aging well. How do community nutrition programs (Meals on Wheels, Food Stamps, Elderly Nutrition Program, etc.) impact the elderly in your community? For this discussion, please post a response. For each response, pick ONE bulleted item from the list above to discuss in 1-3 paragraphs (for example ‘the role of lifestyle on the aging process’, or ‘how finances affect the risk of developing a degenerative disease of aging’). In your response, as usual, please provide references. Please post at least two responses.
