How should we go about practicing the Golden Rule?

We have been through hurricane matthew and irma. Some of our family islands were devastated. many bahamian families have still now fully recovered. After both experiences, how should we go about practicing the Golden Rule? Which universal values (based on personal experiences) make us our brothers keeper?
