The discussion is based off of chapter  10 and 11 of this book: Dore, A. & Eisenhardt, A. (2015.) Cultural Learning in Healthcare: Recognizing and Managing Differences. Atlanta, GA: North American Business Press.

You can answer in bullet format. You do not have to type in essay format. Here is the discussion assignment:

Prior to completing the Discussion Board – Module #6 please be sure you have reviewed Learning Module #6.

Instructions:

In Learning Module #6 both quality as well as legal and ethical considerations are considered. However, should these concepts be considered separately or do they work together to promote patient safety and positive outcomes? It is easy to define concepts or principles as stand alone ideals, but how do these issues come together in order to meet the goals of health care delivery?

For this module question, your role will be to wear many hats and outline the process in which an idea becomes a quality outcome. To do this, you will need the knowledge of Learning Modules 1-6 as they have built on each other to provide you with the background you will need to answer the following questions.

Here is a brief synopsis of an issue that has been presented for your review:

A population of individuals is being turned down for medical treatment at a local urgent care center. This population can be any group you wish it to be, i.e., Caucasian, African American, Asian, etc. Or, you can view your group based on sex, age, affiliation, etc. Nevertheless, your group is being turned down and sick and injured individuals are being left to suffer without medical care.

Simple, right? Your first response is to get them the care they need, but how? Begin your process based on the following questions. You should research and answer the below questions completely and in detail with sources cited appropriately. Please be thorough and carefully consider each question before answering. Please number your answers to correlate with the questions.

Questions:

  1. Do we have an ethical or legal issue? Explain.
  2. Assuming that the issue is ethical and legal, what are our next steps? Detail how you will put your ethical legal concern into action, so this issue can be remedied.
  3. How does the above issue speak to quality in health care? Explain.
  4. Assuming that you have now found a remedy, how do you put it into play?
  5. Finally, pull this all together and explain, in detail, how quality matters. Look at continuous quality improvement, PDCA, PDSA, FADE, etc., as you prepare your response.

This discussion board is worth 25 points. As with all discussion boards, I expect quality responses. To define quality this means 2-3 paragraphs for your original posting and follow-up postings.

Be sure to provide in-text citations and referencing – just as if you were completing a professional paper. And, please feel free to utilize additional scholarly resources above and beyond the learning module content items.
