For the Application Assignment this week, you considered leader characteristics that might detract from the effectiveness of coaching for leadership development. In this week’s Discussion, you will delve deeper into this subject as you share leader characteristics you think might detract the most from the effectiveness of coaching for leadership development with your classmates. You also will consider the challenges you might encounter when working with a leader who possesses these characteristics and how you might address these challenges. To prepare for this Discussion: • Review your Application Assignment and think about leader characteristics that might detract from the effectiveness of coaching for leadership development. • Identify at least two leader characteristics that you think would detract the most from coaching for leadership development and consider why. • Identify at least two challenges you might encounter when working with a leader who possesses the characteristics you identified. Consider how you might address these challenges. Week 2 Discussion Post (from the Syllabus): Leader Characteristics and Coaching Challenges Note: You must complete the Application Assignment for this week prior to completing the Discussion. Write a brief description of at least two leader characteristics you think would detract the most from the effectiveness of coaching for leadership development and explain why. Then explain two challenges you might encounter when working with a leader who possesses the characteristics you described. Finally, explain how you might address these challenges. Be specific. **** Assignment 1 page in which you address the following: 1. Using what you wrote for my element four (4) in the application assignment, summarize (do not copy and paste from your application assignment) at least two (2) leader characteristics that might detract from or hinder clients in general (not the specific client cases) from being coached AND explain why (again, do not copy and paste from the application assignment, summarize here in new words). 2. Then, explain (2) challenges you might encounter working with this clients in general who share these characteristics 3. Finally, explain in detail how you as a coach might address these challenges. Again, the difference between the application and discussion assignments are that the application assignment is based on the cases, the discussion post is for clients or people in general. In both, make sure you use academic citations to justify your responses. You will need to draw on the readings for both weeks to do so (week 1 included things to do with clients, week 2 addresses some individual client dispositions). You can also draw on the recommended readings, or readings of your own choosing. References: Kilburg, R. R. (2007). Toward a conceptual understanding and definition of executive coaching. In R. R.
