Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report on the Future of Nursing

The topic for the individual student formal APA Capstone Paper will be assigned to the student by faculty and will include one of the following topics: • Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report on the Future of Nursing, Leading Change…… • US Surgeon General’s National Prevention Strategies • The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals • ANCC: Magnet Recognition or Pathways to Excellence Designation • AHRQ: Healthcare Innovations Exchange Program Students should receive an email communication from their course faculty facilitator identifying their specific paper topic by Friday January 27th. If you have not received this communication, email your group faculty facilitator or primary course leader. Students MUST use APA 6th edition in constructing and formatting the capstone paper. The capstone paper should be approximately 8 to 10 pages in length (excluding cover page and reference pages). Formal Capstone Paper is due on April 14th by 12 noon and submitted via Safe Assignments. 442C Capstone Paper Criteria I. Abstract: (10 points) • Document includes an APA formatted cover page and abstract. The abstract is no more than 300 words (one paragraph) and follows APA guidelines. II. Introduction to U.S. Healthcare: (10 points) • Provides an overview of the complex healthcare system in the U.S. Compare the U.S. system to other global countries (at least one other country who uses another system such as Bismarck, Beverage, etc….); including a comparison of health outcomes (hint you can use information from DB assignment in NSC 442). Lead into methods to improve the U.S. healthcare system through national initiatives such as the topic assigned to student. Include a purpose statement. III. Background on Initiative: (20 points) • Provide a description of the sponsor organization and healthcare improvement initiative/program/report. Explains why the initiative was designed, including background leading to the need, the mission of the initiative, key elements, and the overall goal. IV. Proposed Impact of Initiative: (25 points) ▪ Describe how the initiative is designed/relevance to improve the system of healthcare delivery (in addition to the initiative website, include at least 1 professional article from the literature to support the impact). • Describe how the initiative is designed/relevance to improve nursing practice (in addition to the initiative website, include at least 1 professional article from the literature to support improvement in nursing practice). • Describe how the initiative is designed/relevance to improve complex patient care (in addition to the initiative website, include at least 1 professional article from the literature to support improvement in patient care). V. Implementation and Outcomes of Initiative: (50 points) • Provide evidence from the literature that demonstrates the use/implementation of an element related to the national initiative topic, including the outcomes/results of the implementation (include at least 2 research studies which utilized concepts from initiative). VI. Conclusion/Summary:(10points) • Summarize all major points. Provide a conclusion on whether the national initiative has been effective in improving healthcare. VII. APA style, spelling, grammar, punctuation, minimal use of direct quotes, and flow of content: (25 points) *Total of 150 points.
