Write a a literary analysis of either “The Rocking Horse Winner” or “The Horse Dealer’s Daughter,” using one of the prompts below. Choose one text and one prompt for your paper. “The Horse Dealer’s Daughter” – Analyzing Lawrence’s characterization of Jack and Mabel as well as the descriptions of their encounters, interpret how Lawrence represents the value and nature of love through the characters, both individually and together. -Considering the story in it’s entirety, analyze the theme of the woman figure, here Mabel, as being a powerful force under which Jack is spellbound; further the analysis with an in depth interpretation of their meetings, focusing on the final scene with Jack and Mabel. “The Rocking Horse Winner” -Analyze the mother and son relationship in the story, focusing on an interpretation of the mother’s lack of love for her son, Paul.
