Major event that led to serious cultural, economic, or political change in America

In our class, we have covered a wide span of American history. From the period before European contact through the first presidential administrations, we have seen dramatic changes in American society. I want you to select one major event that led to serious cultural, economic, or political change in the country. I want you to demonstrate such a sea change in American history by writing an analytic essay that demonstrates a cause and effect relationship. You may select any event that interests you and consider the consequences of this event on American society. In your thesis, make sure to address how your event led to significant shifts culturally, politically, economically, socially, and/or intellectually in the immediate generation following the event (think of a generation as roughly 25-30 years). Use only your discussion notes and assigned class readings to support your essay. I do not want you to do outside research, but instead use the assigned work you have completed. This paper should be between 4-6 pages, typed, double-spaced, in MLA or Chicago format, and with standard margins.
