Material Witness response paper

Readings: “Material Witness” (file attached) Write a one- to two-page (double-spaced) response paper addressing the three components below. 1) Following the author’s suggestions on p. 79, choose six items of material culture shown in Quilting Frolic (p. 78). Then – before reading the rest of the article – consider how each item might be used to help us understand the lives of the people pictured. Of those he discusses, describe the actual use and/or significance of the items. 3) Finally, how are each of the six items you chose markers of the growing emphasis on refinement in the nineteenth century?
