A major requirement from The Joint Commission is to constantly identify areas in which improvement is needed, to implement performance improvement projects that identify and describe the problem, and to include data that supports the implementation of each project. An example would be a health care organization that identifies issues within the utilization of its operating rooms. Within the process of identifying inefficiencies through data collection, the organization realizes that the turnover of operating rooms is inefficient because of a slow communication process with housekeeping services. Similar to this example, there may be areas within your health care organization that need improvement. To complete this assignment: Identify a problem within your health care organization, or a health care organization with which you are familiar, that needs improvement and provide relevant background information. Explain and define the project concisely with at least three identified reasons for why this is an issue for the organization. Collect at least four data elements that demonstrate the selection of this problem as a performance improvement issue. Describe how the data elements were selected and their relevance to the problem. Present each of the data elements and its associated data in a raw representation as well as its appropriate data representation method. Writing Requirements Length: At least 6–8 double-spaced pages, excluding the cover page and references list. Include page numbers, headings, and running headers. References: At least five peer-reviewed resources, WITHIN THE LAST FIVE YEARS formatted to current APA guidelines. Formatting: Use correct APA style and formatting, paying particular attention to citations and references. Font size and type: 12-point Times New Roman.
