Perspectives on the Conquest

In this paper compare the two perspectives in two narratives provided in the attachment. (MUST READ ATTACHMENTS) These include two 16th-century sources: 1. an excerpt from Bernal Díaz del Castillo The True History of the Conquest of New Spain. The Florentine Codex records the memories by the conquered, Nahua people. Consider what particular point of view they provide (one is the conquistador, and the other is the conquered), why they take that particular perspective, and how that might influence their narratives. Objective: I’m interested in your ability to assess the perspective of the writer (or artist) and be able to compare it with others dealing with a similar subject. Details: Your papers are to be 3 page long, double spaced, 12-pt. font, with standard margins. All papers must begin with a section in which you present your sources and provide some basic background information about each one. All papers must conclude with a section in which you think about what you have learned by comparing these sources. In between, it is your choice as to how you decide to present your information. You can present information on each of your sources separately, and then have a concluding section comparing/contrasting them (as well as the concluding analysis detailing what you have learned); or, you can organize your paper around a specific set of topics, and compare/contrast the two perspectives for topic one, then topic two, etc. (again, concluding with an analysis of what you have learned, etc.).
