Pick a current event, issue or news story. Discuss the media coverage of this event or story in terms of media relations

Discussion assignment:Pick a current event, issue or news story. Discuss the media coverage of this event or storyin terms of media relations. This can be about national or local news, politics, business or even sports, as long as you can find a media-relations angle.
What you should do:Look at how multiple (at least 2) different media outlets–news websites, TV, radio, credible bloggers–covered the story, issue or event you have chosen. If possible, link to the coverage you’re going to discuss.
Briefly summarize the story or event. Then analyze whether and how amedia relationsteam played a role in the media coverage of this issue.
For instance, did the storyoriginatefrom a press release that a company sent out? If so, that may be mentioned in the coverage you’re analyzing. You may also want to visit the company’s website to see the original announcement, as the media don’t usually publish the statement verbatim.
Or are the media relations peoplereactingto an external story or event? For instance, are they responding to a story that a media representative (such as a news reporter) published, or to an external event?
See my post in Discussion Forum #1A for examples of such articles.

Important reminder:Remember, the goal here is NOT to criticize how the media covered a particular story or to share your own opinion on the underlying issue. Instead, you’re looking for evidence of howa media-relations team–typically a spokesperson for a company or organization involved in a particular story--influenced how the media reported that story to the public.
If you have questions–including whether a particular story or event is a good fit for this assignment–please feel to let me know.
