Proposal and Rockfish budgeted for a new KM manager to join her team
Jane is elated. The Board approved her proposal and Rockfish budgeted for a new KM manager to join her team. While the KM department idea is not being funded right now Rockfish thinks that in a year they may be able to increase the budget to fund the KM department. In the meantime, Jane can get a KM person on board and they can begin to make a KM plan. To this end Jane (you) is excited to make a memo to the head of HR explaining the new position. should be a memo, written to the director of HR. Within this memo, you are providing:
- A description of the function you expect a KM manager to serve and that person’s contribution to running an effective and sustainable contemporary business environment. This part should be directed to the HR director, as they need to understand why this position is being created.
- A list of the job tasks the KM manager would perform. This part will also be directed to the HR director.
- A recap of the KM issues facing GDD that led to the decision to hire a KM manager and why IT cannot run the KM program. Again, this is for HR’s benefit. They have not been part of these conversations with President Rockfish up to this point, so they don’t know everything he knows about why a KM department is necessary.
- A job description (imagine this is for HR to post on LinkedIn or indeed.com or the job openings page of the GDD website, to recruit candidates). The job description must include all of the following:
- The KM skills you want your manager to have immediately (i.e., they cannot be hired if they do not have these skills)
- The KM skills they would need to meet KM trends for the future (meaning, they can be hired if they do not have these skills right away, but they will need to develop them over time); and
- An explanation of the reasons for wanting a person with these skills for GDD
