Ralph McLean stalked and killed a police officer and an FBI agent in Washington, DC and Maryland. When he was cornered after he ambushed SA William Christian he killed himself. Prior to the McLean case being resolved Corporal John Novabilski of the Prince Georges County police (who was a victim of McLean) was thought to have been attacked by Jeffery Gilbert, a small time drug dealer from PG County. An arrest warrant for Gilbert was issued in The Prince Georges County “SWAT” team was sent to his residence to arrest him. During the arrest he sustained a serious beating and was injured to the point of being sent to hospital. It was subsequently discovered that Gilbert was not responsible for the murder of Corporal Novabilski. 1) Read over the attached summary and decide if the Swat officers deserved to be prosecuted. 2) How do you believe this incident affected the relationship between the FBI and Prince Georges County police rank and file? 3) Since McLean was responsible for the deaths of both Christian and Novabilski what kind of lesson can be learned from this matter?
