Literature review on the relationship between idiosyncratic volatility and information efficiency (how much private information is incorporated into stock prices). there are currently two strands of contrasting literature on this topic; the informed trading hypothesis which suggests that informed trades increases the amount of private information incorporated into stock prices, and the investor uncertainty hypothesis that the variation in stock price is due to information asymmetry.
