You work as a consultant for a global business strategy consulting firm. ACME Widget Company has hired you as they seek to expand their sales. Since a variety of ACME products have grown in popularity throughout the United States, the company’s leadership team has decided that ACME should expand sales of selected products internationally. No one at ACME has much knowledge about the various risks and benefits of global business, so they have hired you in hopes that your expertise can help them come to an informed decision. You will be working with ACME throughout this process, ultimately compiling a report about the risks, benefits and important considerations of ACME’s decision to go global. As you create each section of your report, you will lead regular video meetings to debrief ACME’s leadership team on your findings. Directions For the first section of your report for ACME, you’ve been asked to compile information on various nations to which the company is considering expanding sales: France, China and India. In this section of the report, you’ll take a closer look at the political, cultural, legal and social factors that affect global business in these nations. Your report will also feature descriptions of the major factors that influence the benefits and risks of global business. Part 1: National Analysis: Before ACME can attempt to sell its products in other countries around the world, leadership within the organization must understand each nation’s political, social, cultural and legal landscapes. For each nation (France, China and India), include the following key points in your report: Conduct a basic PESTLE analysis. Using the CIA World Factbook resource along with your own research, write a 400- to 500-word PESTLE analysis of each of the three nations ACME is interested in. In addition, since ACME plans to open a manufacturing plant in Vietnam, you have been asked to conduct a fourth PESTLE analysis for Vietnam. In your report, be sure to consider how each aspect of the PESTLE analysis will impact business in that nation. Discuss how each PESTLE factor will affect business relations between the U.S. and each respective nation. Use the Hofstede Center’s Cultural Country Comparison tool to report on the major cultural similarities and differences between the United States and France, India and China. Write a 200-to 300-word cultural comparison for each nation, being sure to cite how cultural differences with each nation might affect business transactions for ACME. Part 2: Risk and Reward: In addition to reporting back to ACME with information on each nation that the company is interested in expanding sales to, you are also responsible for informing the leadership team of the major factors that impact international transactions and trade. In the next segment of your report, define each of the following terms and concepts for the leadership team: Trade Barriers Tariffs Imports and Exports Exchange Rates (Define the term and compare the value of the U.S. Dollar to the three other nations’ currency) Trading Partnerships Labor Resources Part 3: Meeting the Team: Once you’ve finished writing the first segments of your report, it is time for your first meeting with the ACME leadership team. In this meeting, you will check in with and debrief the team on some of the major components of your report so far. Create a five-minute video in which you explain three of the concepts from the list in Part 2 in greater detail. In the video, cover exchange rates, trade barriers. and your choice of one additional term. Describe how each term or concept affects global business, and explain why each poses a potential risk or benefit for ACME.
