Question One: Please identify the top five most influential Americans in US history between 1865-present (make sure you are cognizant of this—our class picks up when the civil war ends so don’t write the battle of Gettysburg). The individual’s accomplishments or notoriety (remember–they don’t have to be positively influential) should be listed in twitter format, which is 280 characters or less. This should be a summarization of what made them important, positive and/or negative, and he/she should be an American. What has this person accomplished that makes them deserve a place on this list? A few things to remember: Think broadly; no repetition If you choose someone like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, for example, make sure you talk about everything he did; the more clever, the better, but it’s more important that their accomplishments are cited You must cite your information—what page did this come from? Here is an example using Andrew Jackson (who is NOT in our particular class time frame regardless of our current President’s disconcerting understanding of history): 🙂 1.) Andrew Jackson: First modern president? Supporter of states’ rights (but only to a point.) Universal suffrage! (but only if you’re a white male) #oldhickory #TrailofTears #SorryCherokee! #KilltheBank #OpposedNullification (Davidson, 205) Question Two: Please identify the top five most influential events in history from 1865 to the present Again, remember that influence can be negative or positive. You should be able to demonstrate why this event is so important that it deserves to be on your list. Your events should NOT be the same as your people. In other words, if you choose Franklin Delano Roosevelt as your person, do not choose the Great Depression as the event (talk about it in his entry). The more diverse the lists are the better. If this does not make sense, please ask me. Do not forget to include your page numbers and to keep it in twitter format, 280 characters or less. A few more thoughts: Word document or text is fine NO outside sources should be used; if the text is not used the student will sacrifice points
