There are two parts to this culminating assignment: 1) Leadership integration paper, and 2) Leadership development plan. This assignment is built around the Emotional Intelligence 2.0 Assessment that you completed and the VIA Survey of Character Strengths (online assessment). During the term we will also have additional exercises and reflections that you will complete. Your paper should be an integration of your learnings THROUGHOUT this term. The purpose of this integration is to help you identify ways to continue to expand your emotional intelligence and your leadership strengths in your current and future leadership roles. Leadership Development Integration Paper: (70 points). You will need to structure your paper with the four subheadings, numbered below. This paper should be in APA format. The final paper should be about 8 – 10 pages (double spaced). Content of Paper (also see samples on Blackboard): Include a minimum of TEN (10) scholarly references in your paper – you can use the papers that I have posted on Blackboard and our Bennis & Bradberry and Greaves books (but you need to include a minimum of 10 different reference sources in the paper). Emotional Intelligence and Character Strengths Include in this section a summary of your strengths (using the data from your EI Appraisal and VIA) and give specific examples of how you have used these strengths at work, school or home to achieve goals that were important to the organization/team and to you (2 – 3 pages). Include references to scholarly articles in this section which describe WHY EI and strengths are essential for effective leadership. Strengths to Build On: In this section, you will identify three specific areas that you want to continue to expand and list specific actions you will take to build on those strengths. Also summarize what will be different, improved, or enhanced as a result of building on each of the strengths. (2 -3 pages) Include scholarly references in this section. Please do not repeat or cut and paste what you wrote in the development plan. Obstacles to Manage: Identify the personal obstacles that may derail you: defensiveness, boredom in current work/position, difficult relationships with peers, etc. (1 page). You need to include approaches you will use to address the obstacles. Integration of Leadership Theories and Practice. Here you will summarize the connections you have made between the various self-assessment instruments you have completed this term and the concepts of positive leadership practices you have learned from our readings, discussion boards, fieldwork assignment, etc. 2-3 pages. Include scholarly references in this section. Content of Your Positive Leadership Plan (30 points) Review sample development plan on Blackboard to understand how to fully complete the planning form: 1. Select a total of THREE areas for development. This can be a combination of strengths and emotional intelligences dimensions (e.g.1 or 2 VIA strengths AND 1 or 2 EI dimensions) 2. List three specific actions for EACH development area that you select in order to expand your strengths and enhance your emotional intelligence 3. Identify measures of progress for EACH action: •&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ; Quantitative: e.g. the number of times each week that you XXX •&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ;&νβσπ; Qualitative: e.g. your increase confidence when doing YYYY 4. Identify 2 – 4 mentors/support people whom you will share your actions with and ask for guidance and coaching. 5. Establish a time line to measure your progress. I encourage you to have measures that are weekly, monthly, and every 90 days.
