  • The Super Bowl is the most watched program on television, and many just tune in to watch the ads. What are the advantages of advertising during the Super Bowl? What are the disadvantages of advertising during the Super Bowl? Identify one ad from the most recent Super Bowl and research gains from that particular ad, looking for possible advantages and disadvantages of that specific ad. How can Super Bowl advertising impact brand recognition, brand recall, ratings and effective reach?

Super Bowl ads are designed to appeal to the masses. With a combination of humor, sex, music, fun, and adventure, it is sure to attract our vulnerabilities, fears, convictions, values and strengths. Using these attributes, helps the viewer recall the advertisement, thus reinforcing brand recognition. High ratings come into play because the ads are showcased during a prime time. This is the best time to most effectively reach a large group of people. Where else can you capture millions of viewers at the same time around the world?

Some disadvantages of Super Bowl ads:

The cost. Approximately 5 million for 30 seconds is a huge risk for a commercial that some may not remember, and others won’t care about.

Some advantages of Super Bowl ads:

Brand recognition. Millions of people will see and talk about your product. Even after the Super Bowl on Social Media.

“Alexa Loses Her Voice.” One of my favorites. According to USA Today, Amazon Alexa commercial was a win-win. Not only was the celebrity-laced commercial filled with humor, appealing to all and addressed all of the aforementioned attributes, it has proved that the excess of $5million price was worth the risk. It’s the commercial that we couldn’t get enough of, eager to see who would be the next celebrity portraying Alexa’s voice.
