I had a manager in my marketing department once tell me that he was tired of hiring people from the military because they act too rigid in the workplace and are “too command and control” in management style. As the Human Resources manager, I helped coach both the marketing manager and the new employee on the types of leadership valued by our company. The marketing manager was stereotyping and learned to change his perception.
