Why did the Cold War start?

Mr. President, Thank you for stopping by our class today. I want to concentrate on the first sentence to your speech to our class today. You had stated that the Cold War began at the end of WWII. How? Or I should say why did the Cold War start? I thought the Soviet Union and the United States were on the same side?
