The four candidates – Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Eugene V. Debs, and William Howard Taft – all presented voters with a different version of Progressivism. The victor, the Democrat Woodrow Wilson, offered a program he called “The New Freedom,” while his far left opponent Eugene V. Debs wanted socialism, plain and simple. Contrast the programs of these two as presented by their writings. How do they offer different solutions to the same set of problems?
